A small family grove in the Breede Valley, producing extra-virgin olive oil and natural raw honey, freshly bottled at source.
Situated in the Breede Valley near Rawsonville / Worcester, Klein la Rochelle was acquired by Oelof van Rensburg in 1991, for relaxing weekends away from a vibrant business in Cape Town.
Originally part of a much bigger wine farm, but too small to operate profitably in the wine industry, all the vines were removed in 2008, and the farm was replanted with olives. Today, our orchard consists of a mixture of olive cultivars, namely Frantoio, Mission and Coratina, and we now annually press more than 30,000 kg of olives, with our own presses, which had been imported from Italy.
Our olives are grown organically, fertilized only with compost and chicken manure, and without spraying any artificial chemical pesticides since right in the beginning, in 2008.
Our products are tested annually for the presence of chemical pesticides by a reputable Chemical Laboratory, which has consistently been able to provide us with certificates confirming the absence of all pesticides.
The honey comes from hives kept on the property, fed by the indigenous fynbos and the orchard blossom. We extract it gently, never heat it, and never blend in anything else. What’s in the jar is what came out of the comb.
